Gosainkunda Frozen Lakes Trek takes you to the Langtang region to explore the freshwater lakes of Gosainkunda. The region situated in the north of the Nepalese capital city, Kathmandu, has an expansive view of mountains to enjoy. The lakes in Gosainkunda are considered to be sacred from a spiritual and religious point of view.
Trekking to the sacred lakes of Gosainkunda brings you a chance to explore the beautiful nature and enthralling views of the mountains. This trek is one of the nearest Himalayan adventures from Kathmandu.
Our trekking package to the sacred lakes of Gosainkunda is a 12-day trip in total. While you are on this adventure, we take care of you from your arrival in Kathmandu to departure after the trip.
Although the trek is in the nearest Himalayan region from Kathmandu, you will need to drive a full day to reach the trailhead. The trek begins from Dhunche in Rasuwa district where the Langtang region of the Himalayas lies.
But you will go for a full day of sightseeing tour in Kathmandu before driving to Dhunche. The sightseeing tour is a wonderful immersion in the history and culture of Kathmandu Valley. It gives you a perfect start to the trip to Nepal.
When you go for the trek, the trail leads you through the beautiful places of Dhunche, Thulo Syabru, Sing Gompa, and eventually Gosainkunda. You will also trek past a mountain pass called Lauribinayak Pass along the trail. It brings you a wonderful panoramic view of the mountains in the Langtang range.
While this trip is an independent trip leading you to Gosainkunda Lake, it can also be combined with Langtang Valley Trek.

Arrival in Kathmandu at Tribhuwan International Airport. We will check into the hotel by private transportation. If we have enough time, our representative will take you to our office for a briefing about the trip, if not we will brief in the hotel. Overnight stay at the hotel.
After early morning breakfast, our tour guide will take you to the sightseeing in the historical monuments, world cultural heritages like Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, etc. After the tour, we will head back to the hotel. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Today we will head to Dhunche via local tourist bus or private transportation (Jeep/Land cruiser or bus depending on group size). We will drive through famous places like Kakani, Ranipauwa, Trishuli Bazaar, Betrawati, Kalikasthan then finally to Dhunche. The drive will last for about 6 – 7 hours from Kathmandu. Overnight at the Guesthouse.
From Dhunche, we will start our trek. On the first part of the trail, we will gradually ascend up to Ghatte Khola crossing a suspension bridge following the trail of the river on the north side. Then we will pass through the Deurali village at an elevation of 2660 m., continuing to the ridge walking through the forests of firs and rhododendrons. The trail will slowly climb down to the Dimsa reaching to the Sing Gompa at the height of 3330m. via an army camp. We will stay overnight at the teahouse.
We will start our trail from Sing Gompa ascending up to Lauribinayak. A rocky trail will lead to Gosaikunda via the moist forests on the northern inclines and the lush vegetation on the incline facing south. The trail crosses the Langtang Lirung valley viewing the amazing snowy peaks like Ganesh Himal (7406m.), Manaslu (8156m.), Himal chuli (7893m.), and many more. The sanctuary on the northern slope protects the red panda and many other wild animals. We can reach the Gosainkunda on the same day but for the reason of acclimatization, we will stay overnight at Lauribinayak at the guesthouse.
Today, we will walk via Trishuli valley from Lauribinayak to Gosainkunda. There are numerous basins in Gosaikunda but mainly 3 are of more religious importance; Gosaikunda, Bhairabkunda, Saraswatikunda. It is believed that Lord Shiva created the lake when he pierced a glacier with his trident to obtain water to quench his thirst after consuming poison. So this day is celebrated during the full-moon festival each August by the Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims. It takes about 40 minutes to walk around the Gosainkunda lake. We will stay overnight at the lodge or guesthouse enjoying the amazing views of the Himal chuli, Langtang Lirung, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal and many more.
We will slowly climb further through the rocky mountains passing through the lakes towards Laurebina La pass at an elevation of 4610m. after walking through the pass, the trail will descend along the stream through an alpine realm to the national park post at Bhera Goth. We will slowly then descend to the Phedi valley (3740m.) and then climbing to the scrub bamboo to the crest at 3750m. We will pass through Dhupi Chaur crossing the moraines to the bottom then to a steep climb to the Kasturee Danda heading to Ghopte valley at 3440m. overnight stay at the guesthouse.
We will walk from Ghopte down to the rocky roads with numerous ups and downs across the rivers and moraines. Then the trail will ascent to Tharepati. From here, we have two routes: one going to Melamvhi Gaun for longer Helambu valley trek ending at Melamchi Pool while the other goes to Kutumsang for short Helambu valley trek ending at Sundarijal. We will take the short trek and walk through the alpine country with amazing meadows and shrubs. After that, we will reach Mere Danda at 3150m. before descending through the amazing dense rhododendron forests. Overnight stay at the teahouse or guesthouse.
This day destined to a beautiful classic village, Gul Bhanjyang (2140m.). We will walk to the forest ridge to the Thorlang Betini village (2260m.), then to Jhogin Danda (2420m.)m descending to Chipling (2170m.) and then to Pati Bhanjyang (1860m.). Finally, we will reach Chisopasni (2140m.) after a gentle climb up through the amazing meadows and fields and the Brahmin and Chettri villages. Overnight stay at the Guesthouse or Teahouse.
Early wake up for not missing the heart-touching view of the sunrise with the stunning views of Mt. Manaslu, Mt. Langtang, Mt, Dorje Lakpa, Mt. Gaurishankar, Mt. Ganesh Himal and Annapurna range. After breakfast, we will climb up to the Borlang Bhanjyan (2440m) close to Shivapuri Hill then slowly descend to the Mulkharka, a tiny Tamang hamlet. We will then walk to Sundarijal passing through the local water supply system and then water pipe to this village. From Sundarijal, we can take local or private transportation to Kathmandu. Overnight at the hotel.
The tour guide of Trekking Trail Nepal will take you around the Kathmandu valley for sightseeing and then drive back to the Hotel.
Today, we will farewell you to your destination. The Representative of Trekking Trail Nepal will take you to the Tribhuvan International Airport at least 3 hours before the scheduled flight.
