Kathmandu Durbar Square (Basantapur): It is also known as Basantapur. It was built during the Malla era. It’s the place where two markets actually combined to form the Kasthamandap. There is a Hanuman statue built at the entrance of the Royal Palace in 1672 A.D. by King Pratap Malla. Located in the heart of the capital city, Kathmandu, there are temples around the city. Most are pagoda-style with complexly and beautifully carved exteriors and interiors. The people usually gather here during occasions like Indrajatra, Gaijatra, Dashain, Machindranath Jatra, etc.
Pashupatinath Temple: The temple of Lord Shiva which is situated about 5 kilometers southeast of Kathmandu city, at the bank of the holy Bagmati river. There are pagoda-styled temples with gold-plated roofs and silver doors with beautiful carvings. There is a four-faced Shivalinga at the center of the temple. The green surrounding of the temple is heart-soothing.
Boudhanath Stupa: Famous as the home of the Tibetan and Sherpa community. This stupa was built by King Man Dev according to the advice of Goddess Mani Jogini. This stupa has four pairs of eyes in all four cardinal directions with the belief that Lord Gautam Buddha is keeping an eye on us for the prosperity, peace, and welfare of humankind. It is established on an octagonal base with prayer wheels. The Lamas/priests stay in the gumbas around the stupa chanting the prayers. Lots of rooftop restaurants are available with exquisite cuisines: traditional and international as well.
Swayambhunath Stupa: Popularly known as the “Monkey Temple”. This stupa lies at the top of a hill where there is a large stupa of Lord Buddha and Hindu temples around it. There are an amazing combination and unity of Buddhism and Hinduism here. We can enjoy a striking 360-degree view of the Kathmandu Valley from here.
